Miura Haruma & Sato Takeru Hold “High Touch” Event for Their DVD Release

On November 11th, actors Miura Haruma (21) and Sato Takeru (22) held a high touch event to celebrate the release of their DVD “HT~Sekido no Mashita de, Nabe wo Tsutsuku~ (eat hot-pot right under the equator)” at SHIBUYA TSUTAYA.

At the event, Miura was asked about his plans for Christmas, and he answered, “We will hold ‘SUPER Handsome LIVE 2011′ from December 26th ~ 28th, so I think I will be doing practice and rehearsal. Having fun with rookie actors.” When asked if there was a girl that he would spend Christmas together with he answered, “I want a girlfriend, so very much!” Sato then gave him advice, “Haruma-san, you are a free person, so it’s better to have somebody who can watch over you warmly.”
This is the second DVD of their funny journey overseas after the first series “HT~N.Y. no Chuushin de, Nabe wo Tsutsuku~ (Eat hot-pot in the center of New York)” (released in February 2010). The DVD was about the two actors who visited New York to make hot-pot. For this second series, they traveled to the island of Borneo. They made an exploration into the tropical rainforest, visited “The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre”, and got all covered with mud at the mud volcano. The DVD shows the real faces of the two who could not hide their astonishment and excitement at the place they visited for the first time, and one of the highlights is what kind of hot-pot they made there.
About the most impressive scene, Miura said, “We were told that we would not be able to see the wild elephants because of the swollen river due to the abnormal weather, but miraculously, we saw them. I thought that the miracle could happen if we were together.” On the other hand, Sato said, “The contact with orangutans. They were cute.” Miura also revealed, “Takeru-san encountered a creature that he hated so much at the jungle. He was screaming very loud that I have never heard before.” Then Sato confessed, “It was a hairy caterpillar. I’m not so good with those creatures… I screamed to let people know there was a hairy caterpillar.”
Sato who was asked about the encounter with Miura, said, “I belong to the same agency with Haruma-san, and we had an opportunity to go to an amusement park together. We got closer after co-starring each other in a drama ‘Bloody Monday’.” According to Miura, “We just talk about girls almost all the time. Just kidding!” They were also asked if there was anything they wanted each other to change, but they showed off their mutual love saying, “There is nothing.” (Miura), “As long as he stays as the way he is.” (Sato).

About the place they would like to go in the future, Miura said, “Personally, I want to go to the Northern Europe, and experience riding a dogsled.” Sato also said with a smile, “I would like to see wild lions and cheetahs in the savanna.”

Sato Takeru to Make His Stage Debut With “Romeo and Juliet”

It’s been announced that actor Sato Takeru (22) will be making his stage debut with Shakespeare’s enduring masterpiece “Romeo and Juliet” which will start playing in May 2012.  Sato will play Romeo, and he commented, “I will challenge squarely toward the pure love story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.”  It was also revealed that actress Ishihara Satomi (24) will be taking the role of Juliet, and this is the first time for them to co-star each other.

The stage direction will be taken by Jonathan Munby who is the notable young stage director in the London theater, and it will aim the “love story that strikes a sympathetic chord in the modern audience.”

Sato who is being active in several scenes, such as TV and movies, has set the preparatory period of 2 years for the stage debut.  He first visited the United Kingdom to see Jonathan in July 2010, and also he visited and stayed there for 2 weeks in this March to attend the workshop operated by Jonathan.  Then Sato went to the United Kingdom again in this May in order to take the training for stage performance.

Though Sato has been trying extremely hard to face with the important role of Romeo. He commented, “It was such a valuable experience (this preparatory period), but still, I am completely amateur for the stage play, so I’m being desperate how I can catch up to everybody.  I’m not sure how far I can go, but I will try my best with my full strength.

Ishihara who will play Juliet who falls in love with Romeo who is from an opposing family, commented, “It’s a title that everybody knows, and Juliet has been played by many many people.  I felt little embarrassed and uneasy to play the fiery love story that wrenches your heart with the numerous famous lines.”  However, after having a deep discussion about the role and the intent with Jonathan, Ishihara commented, “My anxiety completely disappeared, and it made me think that I wanted to stand on the stage as Juliet.”  She says that she can’t wait for the rehearsal now.

Sato commented about Ishihara, “I always thought she is the actress who shows an attractive acting, so I’m really happy to be able to work with her.”  On the other hand, Ishihara said about Sato’s impression, “He looks at people squarely and is manly, but he is also a modesty person at the same time.

Other than Sato and Ishihara, other main cast members have also revealed.  Kaku Kento as Tubalt, Suda Masaki as Mercutio, Onoue Hiroyuki as Benvolio, Hasegawa Hatsunori as the Capulet, Ishino Mako as Capulet’s wife, Hashimoto Satoshi as Friar Laurence, and so on.

This is Sato Takeru's first war drama. The story is set during the Battle of Okinawa which took place towards the end of the Pacific War. It portraits the tragic story of two brothers as they get split up; one fighting for USA and the other for Japan making them enemies in war.

Live-action “Rurouni Kenshin” Movie Confirmed, starring Sato Takeru

There have been rumors of a live-action “Rurouni Kenshin” movie since last summer, but now the project is officially confirmed. Actor Sato Takeru (22) will star under director Otomo Keishi (“Ryomaden”), with Warner Bros. producing.

The film is scheduled for release in 2012, though the staff is aiming to make it successful enough to continue as a series. Given the international popularity of “Rurouni Kenshin,” there is also hope that the movie gets released overseas as well.

The original manga, written by Watsuki Nobuhiro, originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1994 to 1999. The story has been collected into 28 tankoubon volumes, and there are more than 50 million copies of the books in print. It has been translated and released in 23 countries, and a successful television anime adaptation came out in 1996.

Sato acknowledged that there is a “very high hurdle” in living up to everyone’s image of the iconic character. However, Watsuki commented that when the project was just starting, he discussed with his wife whom they thought should play Kenshin, and Sato was #1 on their list.

Preparations for the project started about 3 years ago, and Sato was offered the role after his appearance in “Ryomaden.”

Filming for “Rurouni Kenshin” is scheduled to begin in July.
